Bogans

Wikipedia mentionne: "The bogan stereotype is roughly equivalent to the American white trash, although the term bogan does not necessarily suggest violent or anti-social behaviour. Certain styles of clothing are stereotypically associated with bogans, including Moccasin-style slippers, ugg boots, jeans, black leggings."

What is a bogan?

BOGAN (pronunciation boe-gn) is a term used primarily in Australia to describe a particular section of the working class demographic. This derogatory slang word is a gender-neutral noun; this being important as many bogans tend to gravitate towards one another forming relationships and extended families. A bogan family is not an uncommon phenomena in certain regions. A bogan typically resides in either a low-cost housing estate, government housing or in the outlying regional areas of continental Australia. Generally bogans tend to congregate in areas with little or no features & amenities.

Sydney

We spent last week in Sydney, where we went to visit a friend of Rob’s, Aaron and his fiancée Lucia, who are staying there until next February. We opted for the 12 hours train ride to get there, a bit long, but it was quite alright.

Aaron lives in a 2 story house shared between 6 people, and one of his roommate was gone for the week, so she let us sleep in her room, so that was great and free. Sydney is supposed to be sunny 300 days of the year... we were there for 5 of the other 65, but the last 2 days were gorgeous. The rain didn't stop out enjoyment of this awesome city though!

We were in Sydney for the Melbourne Cup (we left Melbourne on one of its most happening week, the day of the Cup is also a public holyday in Melbourne, so everyone can watch the race live or at a pub), so we went to a pub for the Emirates Melbourne Cup at 3:00, it’s a 3200m race, so it was over at 3:05. This race is such an unbelievably huge gambling event and so much money is put in it...they love gambling. And you also need to see the neat Melbourne Cup fashion; all the men wear suits and the ladies cocktail dresses with little hats…very classy! look here .

Sydney is pretty nice, there are some awesome beaches and epic landmarks, so we did lots of walking around and we had a great time!

Here are some photos
